Pollution is one of the major concerns that the world today is facing. No matter what measures are taken, statistical data proves that the pollution level in the world, and specifically in India, has been rising since long. When it comes to the capital of India, the situation is far more alarming. New Delhi and its surrounding areas that belong to the NCR suffer from a degraded air quality that impacts everyone and especially kids residing in these areas. Health hazards like respiratory tract congestion and other infections are rising, particularly among the vulnerable like the elderly and children.
We all know the pollution has become a menace for us, but the question arises if we are actually doing our bit to curb it? That’s probably because not many are aware of how exactly the rising level of pollution has been negatively impacting us, and particularly our kids. Thus today, we are sharing with you some of the most common and immediate health hazards that pollution imposes on our little ones.
Pollution of any sort always impacts the immunity system of the body and weakens it by strengthening the harmful bacteria and viruses. Children living surrounded by poor quality air and water often posses a fragile immunity system not capable of fighting even common infections like cold and flu. Children thus tend to fall sick quickly and frequently. Several studies have revealed that as the air gets more polluted, the T cells that regulate the overall functioning of the immune system get suppressed. Consequently, the body’s response to inflammatory conditions also gets blocked triggering respiratory hazards and asthma. The body thus becomes more prone to infections and diseases.
The poor air quality and sound pollution are the two primary reasons that tend to affect the concentration abilities of children the most. Studies have revealed that low-quality air deteriorates the health and the mind, both.
With an average AQI of 301-400 during the months of October to December every year, most of the Delhites and the people residing in NCR areas are forced to inhale an air that is regarded as critically polluted. This causes serious respiratory problems for everyone, especially children, and often makes them prone to respiratory diseases like asthma. As you all must be aware, the AQI in Delhi and NCR had gone up to critically severe levels for the last few days, which has compelled even the government to intervene and call for offs for all the schools in Delhi & NCR. The condition is really alarming and demands all of us to ponder upon the steps we must take to bring back the situation to normal.
We all are aware of the hazards that accompany excessive pollution. However, there are ways to get rid of it, as well. A little change in our daily life practices can be of great importance to rectify the damage done. Here are some of the tips to make a difference in restraining the pollution levels.
Our environment is where we live, and we must come forward to protect it from any possible damages. If all of us contribute individually towards protecting our nature, a big difference can be felt. At JP International School, one among the Top CBSE Schools in Greater Noida, we understand our responsibility towards our environment and always strive to make our young generation understand the same as well. To do our bit, we, at JPIS, maintain an eco-friendly campus and also put up awareness campaigns for children and parents to keep everyone updated with the latest developments related to the pollution scenario. We believe that awareness is the key to solving this menace and if each of us can make at least 2 people aware of what they can do to help the environment restore itself to normal, we will have a job well done.
