Teachers training is an integral part of any educational organisation and teaching is all about good communication i.e. listening, speaking, reading, presenting, writing, interacting etc.with others .
Teacher training workshops were organised in JPIS on 30th and 31st May 2019 to enhance the skills amongst the teaching faculty.
Day one of the workshop focused on the ‘Communication Skills and Leadership Competencies’.
The aim of the workshop was to enable the teachers to overcome the barriers of communication and to improve verbal and non verbal communication within and without the classroom. The workshop effectively conveyed the nuances of good communication and the techniques of building it. It was an interactive session where most of the teachers got a chance to speak out their mind.
A couple of activities were conducted to see the comprehension skills of the faculty members through audio and video resources.
The day 01 concluded with teachers filling the feedback forms and taking home the 2 handouts of the points shared.
Day two of the workshop was focussed on the significance of planning in classroom transaction. The session revolved around the importance and execution of ‘ microteaching’. The session began with selection of the teams on the basis of the colours they wore.
Each team was allocated a table followed by a team building and choosing volunteer leader through a group activity, where they created a imaginary character representing the qualities of their chosen leader.
The teams created 3D character with the specific material provided to them which was then presented in front of the audience.
The facilitator emphasised on the importance of micro teaching. Each team taught short lessons in front of each other in order to gain feedback on their teaching methods.
It enabled the teachers to practice their teaching skills in a confident, challenging environment, receive feedback on their teaching from multiple perspectives and to receive supportive feedback from peers.
Each team presented their lesson to the forum after discussing and collaborating it within their teams.
On both the days the workshop was conducted successfully by Mrs. Bindu Sahdev.
